Importance of the Narrator

The narration in a story has the ability to alter our perception of the protaginists within a text. There are many different aspects to be considered while evalutating the intents of author through his or her narrator. Some of these things to consider inlcude:

Point of view: How is the narrator using his/her point of view to enhance the meaning of the characers? Is this narrator a reliable one?

Voice: How is the narrator’s voice used to express their own opinions?

Narrator Epiphanies: How does the narrator’s tone towards the character’s change or develop, if at all?

Omniscience: How much does the narrator really know about the characters and the story?

The narrator has the job of presenting what the author wants to get across to the readers and what they want to be taken away from their story.
